Worn Wild Sydney July 4, Goth & Alternative Fashion showcase

Yesterday I headed to the Gaff in Oxford Street to check out the Alternative Fashion Event that is Worn Wild Sydney.

For fuller details, see my post on the December Worn Wild here.

As you can see, it is a combination of markets, tradeshow, fashion show and meet & greet. I had a fantastic time watching the luscious models strut their stuff and showcasing top alternative fashion, then browsing the wares, chatting with the designers and collecting business cards.
As many members of the Sydney goth scene also attended, I did a fair bit of socialising too – but I had to tear myself away, saying “I came to shop!”  Always remember your goal and mantra 😉
I failed to get good pictures of the fashion show myself, but I’ll source them and post on the blog here soon. In the meanwhile, here’s a few of mine.
I talked to Melissa, the organiser and publicist of Worn Wild (love her turquoise hair!) After only talking with her through email when I used to do fashion for Fiend, it was nice to put a face to the name 🙂  Melissa is also the brains behind label GeoMythik, which draws on elements of Cyber-styles, Punk, Goth, Lolita, Deathrock & Boudoir Burlesque.
I just had to peruse the GeoMythik display – ooh, la la! Pretty bustles, skirts, boleros and pants in PVC! Many striped things! As well as spots, leopard, lace and tartan…it was all very me.
Look at the frilly bustles! Yep, I nabbed a red one 🙂
In the doorway beyond, just nestled in behind Geomythik, was the fab label Purpur, about which I have written before, and the designer of the outfit I wore on the day!
Purpur has a very tailored, military look with a modern edge – Soviet Totalitarian style. There has been a website revamp and new fashion line since I last wrote about Purpur, and I was pleased to see a new line of jackets with gorgeous military epaulettes edged in fringing! Want.
Other fantastic exhibitors included Rubi Rocket (I also bought from her), Dark Muse corsetry, ChrisstComplex (who have an amaazing lookbook for 2010 – more in later posts), Any Wear, Le Lash which had awesome military styled boleros, Bone Orchard, Holy Kitsch, In Visible Light, Pangaia, Primordial DesignTrashglam, VnV Boutique (which helpfully conducted eftpos transactions) and Z~ENT!TY.

All in all a very fruitful and pleasant afternoon. You’ll be seeing my purchases in future outfit posts, as well as features on some of the designers. I encourage you to click on the links though and have a look yourself. If you’re into alternative fashion, you’ll be sure to find more than your budget can handle!
My Pupur outfit in full:
Jacket, skirt & cap – Purpur
Wide belt – Cue
Skull & crossbones necklace – i-Socks, Malaysia

The military cap I had to have perched on my head at a jaunty angle, thusly, and Violet circle lenses matched my hair.
The next Worn Wild Melbourne is on Sunday 5th September, at the Mercat Hotel, 456 Queen Street.

So if you’re in Sydney or Melbourne, or can get to them, stay tuned for the next Worn Wilds!

  3. that looks like a fun place to shop 🙂 sad i missed it!

  4. Love love LOVE your outfit! Very sexy!!

  5. Steph – I'll give you a heads up next time that it's coming up 🙂

Violet – thank you!! It is quite different to what I usually wear.

  6. It's great that you got to meet Melissa, she's a sweetheart! Your style often reminded me of hers, so I'm not surprised you liked Geomythik!

  7. Hex – it's funny, we'd talked via email, but I didn't know it was her. She came up to me in a pub the night before, and said "Thanks Leanne for all your support while you were with Fiend" and I just blinked.

Then it came out about her organising Worn Wild, and I did always make sure I put them in the Fashion News and such. It was nice to be thanked 🙂
