Sass & Bide, David Jones Winter/Fall 2010

While the rest of the world lays shivering under their woolly blankets, Australia has been sweltering, and is actually looking forward to the cooler days – and HOT fashion!

Witness the unveiling of the David Jones Autumn/Winter collection yesterday, modelled by the infamous Miranda Kerr.

Sass & Bide’s collection was just stunning, and was joined by Alannah Hill, Willow, Thurley, Colette Dinnigan, Bianca Spender/Carla Zampatti, Ginger & Smart, and Scanlan & Theodore.

But to focus on my faves – Sass & Bide and the Future Grand collection (already shown at London Fashion Week). What impressed me was the use of metallic embellishment and a cyber-tribal feel – that Higher Ground dress is just breathtaking! Who needs a statement neckpiece or cuff when it’s already featured in the dress?

There were harnesses and metallic beading everywhere – and could be worn in summer (for the northern hemisphere) or layered for those of us going into autumn. Truly trans-seasonal.

Some of my favourite pieces from the e-shop include the “Sunrider” fitted dress with contrast panels and glass beading, and the matching “The Picture” skirt (above), as well as “The Dark Side” black dress with studded embellishment.

Moving onto pants, I’m strangely besotted with the drapey striped cargo pants, even though they would probably make me look like a Burtonesque, Beetlejuician leprechaun. They’re called “District 9” 🙂 The leopard pants called “Major Rays Lover” are just plain cool, but probably wouldn’t go past my calves.
There are also tees with graphic digi-prints (a huge trend at the moment), others with perspex mirror, stud and gem embellishment, leggings and tunics with futurist designs, and sexy bodysuits upon which to layer the rest of the collection.
“It’s a very exciting time for fashion,” said Sarah-Jane Clarke (one half of the Sass & Bide duo). “Individualism rules!”
I have to agree.
